Mobile Phone Spam
Over the last few days I've missed several calls on my mobile from someone with the 02 (Sydney) number prefix. Normally, like most people, I would have called them straight back but I've recently heard about phone spammers calling mobile numbers and immediately hanging up. Their aim is for the recipient to call them back their thereby earning them cash. I grew suspicious when the first call came in at 6.18am (that's 8.18am Sydney time) and didn't leave a message on my voicemail (my phone was silenced). The only people calling me with an 02 prefix (especially at that time of day) would be business people seeking my services and in business you ALWAYS leave a message. Later calls I also somehow missed all with a similar 02 number.
Anyway today I did some checking about the numbers and guess what? They are spammer numbers. There are a whole swathe of them. skit.id.au and 4 wise monkeys have all the details. Here are the numbers (as of today) - they change apparently:
- 02 8219 0500

Thanks!
To be honest, I would've thought it was an urban myth!(I'm a bit naieve...!).
I've had about 2 calls from 02 numbers in the last month. Haven't called them back anyway, as I don't know anyone at all over there that would have my number!
It's not an urban myth unfortunately.
Ha, it just happened again!
Ringed once, then stopped. Was a 02 number. So wrote it down, came in here, and yes, it's on your list!

Not that I was going to ring it back anyway, but at least I don't have to rack my brains trying to think who it might've been!
:D
